Dr. Janelle Green-Smith,CNM

I didn’t know Dr.Janelle Green-Smith,CNM personally. I don’t know what happened. Yet, I know her work, her passion, her heart. To hear of her passing due to complications of childbirth hits hard. This should not have happened.

When I learned of this my thoughts and emotions took a journey fast and furiously. Anger, sadness, grief, disbelief, anger, mourning, disappointment  and a  tremendous almost sense of hopelessness. If an advocate who is educated with the highest degree in Midwifery did not survive the journey of labor and postpartum, what hope is left?

Then the anger kicked in and the passion to continue to fight and advocate for HEALTHY MOMS &  HEALTHY BABIES everywhere stirred within. I can’t stop, won’t stop.

There comes a time and that time is now . The time is now, that moms can experience  pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum and have a healthy safe delivery and good outcome.

I cannot and will not pretend to know every detail with this situation. I do know  the sad outcome and I’m silently screaming Why?

What is the real solution? How can this be stopped. How can this change?

Rest in peace Dr. Janelle Green-Smith. I know your work on Earth was not in vain. I know you made a difference for the women you served. Thank you for walking in your purpose and calling.

You will be remembered.  I will fight on for safe, equitable child birth and postpartum experiences.
